Scrunchie
A cheerful upcycling design for the hair
It tames every mane and provides pop accents in the hair. Vintage saris are used to make it, giving it a fine second life as a colourful hair piece. How nice - this way they spread joy, even if they have not been able to fulfil their original function for a long time!
Since the scrunchies are an upcycled product, each one is unique. Due to the great variety of colours of the different saris, we offer the scrunchies as a surprise product, which means that there is no possibility to choose a colour in advance.
These scrunchies are produced in the sewing workshop of our WFTO-certified partner Rice & Carry in Sri Lanka. Rice & Carry trains women from rural areas to help them earning their own fair income. The company's environmental focus is on the sustainable use of resources with a particular focus on upcycling existing materials.
When our WFTO-certified production partner Rice & Carry had the idea to make something out of old saris, they went door to door and promoted their project to the women. In the meantime, the women bring their old saris to the factory themselves and Rice & Carry turns them into scrunchies, hair bands, face masks and furoshikis (textile alternative to wrapping paper).
Colours may vary.
